Hotel Vocabulary
- Reception – the front desk where guests check in and get help
- Reservation – a booking made in advance
- Check-in – the process of arriving at the hotel
- Check-out – the process of leaving the hotel
- Key Card – an electronic card to open the room
- Room Service – food or items delivered to your room
- Facilities – hotel services (gym, pool, spa, etc.)
- Complimentary – free of charge
- Double Room – room for two people
- Lobby – the main entrance area of the hotel
Useful Hotel Phrases
“I have a reservation.”
Used when you arrive at the hotel to check in.
“Can I check in, please?”
Polite way to ask to start your stay.
“What time is breakfast?”
Useful question for hotel services.
“Could I have an extra towel, please?”
Polite request for items.
“Is room service available?”
Asking about food/drinks delivery.
“Can you call a taxi for me?”
A common request at reception.
“Can I check out late?”
Asking to leave after the normal time.
Dialogue: Checking In at the Hotel
Receptionist: Good afternoon! Welcome to Grand Star Hotel. How may I help you?
Guest: Hi. I have a reservation under the name Aliya Siddique.
Receptionist: Let me check… Yes, I found your booking for two nights.
Guest: Great! Can I check in now?
Receptionist: Of course. May I see your passport, please?
Guest: Here you go.
Receptionist: Thank you. Your room number is 407. Here is your key card.
Guest: Thank you. What time is breakfast?
Receptionist: Breakfast is from 7:00 to 10:30 in the restaurant.
Guest: Perfect. Thanks a lot.
Receptionist: You’re welcome. Enjoy your stay!
Speaking Practice questions
Try to answer these questions:

3. Do you prefer a single room or a double room?

Mini Exercise
Choose the correct answer:
1. You go to the reception/kitchen to check in.
2. “Complimentary” means free/expensive.

Grammar Point: Making Polite Requests
We use these structures to sound polite:
1. Could you please + verb…?
Example:
“Could you please bring me an extra pillow?”
2. Can I + verb…?
Example:
“Can I have the Wi-Fi password?”
3. Would it be possible to + verb…?
Example:
“Would it be possible to check out late?”
4. I would like + noun
Example:
“I would like a room with a view.”
